AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9590 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. #9590 is a BF-15 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in July of 1949, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in June of 1964 after just 15 years of service. This A-B-A set is rounding the Curve with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Wave to the Fireman and the Head-End Brakeman! |
