Coaling Tipple. Here is an original telephoto view that I took from atop the Pennsylvania Railroad's coaling tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. Here is another view facing railroad west. Shown here are two unidentified PRR locomotives that have just exited the Roundhouse. The GM-EMD switcher has pulled an inert ALCo locomotive to this point. After the Railroader in the photo throws the switch, the GM-EMD will push the ALCo to the East Altoona Ready Tracks so that the latter may return to revenue service. Partially visible on the right are more deadlined locomotives. |
