Here is a photo by Aaron G. Fryer that was published originally on the front cover of the April 1961 issue of "Trains" magazine. Cover Caption: "Ticket-taking time aboard a Strasburg Rail Road train." Partially visible here is Strasburg Rail Road engine #31, an 0-6-0 shifter built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1908. According to Gary Everhart, "it has worn several numbers through the years": originally it was Grand Trunk Western's #1708; then Canadian National's #7157 circa 1923, renumbered CN #7240 in 1952, and renumbered CN #7312 in 1957; then purchased, reconditioned, and renumbered SRC #31 in 1960 ~ some 52 years after it first hit the rails! |
